Dentures West Perth, WA
The last two decades have seen dramatic improvements for patients who wear dentures. Both the fit and aesthetics of today’s dentures provide a viable option for patients with missing teeth, allowing them to maintain a healthy diet and a confident smile.
At Western Prosthodontic Centre, we offer a number of options to complete patients’ smiles using dentures.
Complete (Full) Dentures
Full dentures replace all of the teeth on the upper, lower or both arches. For patients wishing to minimise the amount of time they go without teeth after extractions, we can fit immediate dentures for use during the healing process. Because the fit will change as healing progresses, regular adjustments will ensure a snug fit, and replacement dentures may become necessary.
Most modern complete dentures are made of a pink resin base to mimic the appearance of gum tissue. Denture teeth look lifelike and come in a variety of shapes and colours to ensure a natural look based on patient age, gender and preferences.
The fit of complete dentures can change over time as patients experience bone loss or weight fluctuations. Relines using a soft material can provide a temporary solution.
Caring for Complete Dentures
It is important never to allow a complete denture to dry out because it will warp the denture and affect how it fits. Like natural teeth, dentures withstand a number of forces each day, and making sure they are free of scratches and cracks will keep bacteria from collecting and causing an unpleasant odour.
To clean your denture, use only an approved denture cleanser and lukewarm water. Special denture brushes can remove tartar and food particles.
At WPC, we will check your denture at each exam to ensure proper fit and function.
Partial dentures replace teeth when the patient still has some of their own natural teeth. Partial dentures come in metal, resin, and flexible options. Our dentists, Dr Bradley Shepherd and Dr Matthew Kinsella, will be happy to discuss the benefits and limitations of each.
Small wires attach to the remaining teeth to hold the partial denture securely in place. Because the wires can bend from the forces of chewing, the occasional adjustment will make the fit more comfortable.
Partial dentures should be cleaned in much the same way as complete dentures. We recommend you bring your dentures to each dental exam appointment.
Combining the stability of dental implants with the affordability of dentures is an excellent solution for patients who want a more reliable option. Placing 4 to 6 dental implants on the upper or lower arch anchors the denture in place and eliminates the embarrassment of denture mishaps while eating or speaking.
